Teaching English Language for The
Intermediate stage Aims of the Course : The aims of teaching English in

To produce, in three years, an individual who is able to
speak, read and listen with understanding to simple current English and to
write a connected passage of up to half a page about a simple subject or

To give pupils who finish their formal education in the
third year intermediate enough knowledge of the language to help them in their

To give pupils who precede to the secondary stage a sound

To lay the foundation of a knowledge of English so that
later they can acquire sufficient grasp of the language to enable them to
preach their religion to English speakers, and to refute the errors of the

General : Before she considers starting the year's work the teacher
must study the books and this syllabus carefully, and then begin to plan the
division of the work throughout the year. The teacher should always base her work
on the principle of never telling a pupil anything she can work out for
herself; thus pupils will try and work for themselves instead of sitting
passively listening to long explanations by the teacher. Pupils should be made
to feel that their active co-operation in the lesson is essential. The greater
the pupil's effort, the more thorough is the learning. | |
